
Team Leader
We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to manage our Bogies & Locomotives team at Eastleigh Works. Reporting to the General Manager, you will oversee production, resources, quality, schedules and team performance while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have strong engineering, leadership and people-management experience, with the ability to develop teams and drive continuous improvement.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will provide leadership, specialist advice, supervision, support and assistance to the team. The Team Leader will manage the production, output and efficiency of the departmental team, managing, the overall planning and designing of methods to improve or enhance existing work programs. Overseeing the analysis and review of budgets, schedules, production requirements and headcount to determine the most cost effective and efficient methods of obtaining necessary resources.
The Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring that the product meets excellent quality standards required to minimise costs and maximise customer satisfaction whilst ensuring that procedures and processes are adhered to. Ensure incoming materials meet required quality standards. Responsible for identifying and raising quality issues and for speedily resolving them to ensure zero impact to the customer.
The Team Leader will focus on conformance with economical manufacturing objectives, profit goals, and production schedules ensuring that the production process is on time and within the budget. In addition, the Team Leader will be responsible for the ongoing improvement of technical processes and techniques used by the team, and for enabling and best utilising the individuals within the team to provide effective, high quality engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, monitor, and manage production activities to optimise business performance
Assessing project and resource requirements
Manage production processes to ensure that they are run in a manner that reduced costs, maximises profits
Ensure quality of final product is at its highest standard
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to achieve on-time delivery and maximise customer satisfaction
Re-negotiating timescales or schedules as necessary
Lead and supervise a team of workers and review work performance of direct reports, induction their supervision, appraisal and training needs analysis
Monitor and report on the ongoing process towards achieving quality objectives
Overseeing the production process, drawing up a production schedule to achieve project and business objectives.
Organising the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment
Oversee the selection and maintenance of tools and equipment to achieve optimal product quality
Contribute to the development and enforcement of quality-control programmes
Collaborate with other managers to implement the Company policies and procedures effectively
Contribute to the development and implementation of health, safety and environmental initiatives
Ensure that the company’s policies and procedures are compliant with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and good practice, are communicated effectively to Production staff and adhered to at all times
Supervising and managing the work of junior staff
Organising relevant training sessions
Undertake any other similar responsibilities as requested from time to time
Skills & Experience Required
What Experience & Qualifications Do I Need?
Proven experience in Management
Excellent communication skills, including an excellent command of English – both spoken and written
Ability to analyse complex data and draw valid conclusions
Ability to understand financial information and effectively control allocated budgets
Strong business acumen
Excellent problem-solving skills
Proven record of leading and developing a team
Excellent people management skills
Ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop others
Ability to complete tasks to high standards in a fast, effective and efficient manner

Ideally, but depending upon experiences, the candidate should hold:
CMI/ILM management qualifications at Level 5 or higher
Knowledge of ISO 9001 and EN 9100 International Standards
Experience of Managing Large Projects
A recognised qualification in Management
Proven experience within an engineering environment
