The Role

We are looking for an experienced Rolling Stock Project Manager to join Arlington Fleet Services at our Eastleigh depot. In this role you will take ownership of refurbishment and overhaul projects from initial scope through to client sign-off, coordinating engineering teams, managing timelines and ensuring consistent delivery to the standards our clients expect.


This is a client-facing role that sits at the intersection of engineering and project management. You will need a strong understanding of rolling stock and the ability to manage complex, multi-discipline projects in a depot environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead rolling stock refurbishment and overhaul projects from scoping through to successful delivery

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines and resource schedules

  • Coordinate engineering teams across multiple disciplines to ensure work progresses to programme

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout project delivery, providing regular progress updates

  • Identify and manage project risks, escalating issues promptly and proposing solutions

  • Monitor project budgets and flag variances early

  • Ensure all work is completed to the required engineering standards and documented correctly

  • Support the handover and sign-off process, ensuring clients receive complete documentation

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience managing projects within the rail sector, ideally in a rolling stock or depot environment

  • Strong understanding of rolling stock maintenance, overhaul or refurbishment processes

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously

  • Confident communicator with experience managing client relationships

  • Commercially aware with experience managing project budgets

  • Proficiency with project management tools and reporting

  • A formal project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM) is desirable but not essential
