Mechanical Fitter

Join Arlington Fleet Services as an Experienced Mechanical Fitter at Eastleigh Works. The role involves mechanical inspections, fault finding, overhauls, repairs, component installation, wheelset work, brake testing and vehicle rebuilds. We are looking for experienced, technically minded individuals with a background in rolling stock, mechanical fitting or heavy engineering and a strong attention to detail.

The Role

We are looking for Experienced Mechanical Fitters, with a background in engineering, ho are technically minded individuals with high attention to detail. The role will involve supporting the Wagons & Locomotives Team in carrying out all mechanical related tasks safely and in line with Industry specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visual inspections

  • Fault finding assessments and feedback on all major components

  • Full overhaul and modifications

  • Dismantle vehicles

  • Condition assessment; Including cleaning and measuring components

  • Mechanical installations

  • Running repairs as required

  • Wheel set inspection and exchange

  • Testing of certain components

  • Rebuild vehicles

  • Brake tests

  • Record of tasks carried out

  • Ability to undertake mechanical installation work safely and following industry best practice, client specifications and Industry Safety Regulations

  • Any other comparable duties as and when requested

Skills & Experience Required

What experience & qualifications do I need?

  • Rolling Stock, Mechanical Fitting, Heavy Engineering,

  • High attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Must be well organised

  • Demonstrate the ability to read diagrams and schematics

  • Must be able to apply a working knowledge of mechanical equipment

  • Must possess particular practical, productive and mechanical engineering skills

  • Competent at operating hand tools, test instruments and equipment

  • City & Guilds / NVQ level one, level two and / or level three qualifications in Engineering/Mechanic discipline

What We Offe

  • Salary up to £28,350.00 per year (Dependent on qualifications and experience)

  • Available Overtime paid at higher rates
