The Role

We are looking for a skilled Bogie Overhaul Engineer to join our team at Eastleigh. Working within our dedicated bogie overhaul facility, you will be responsible for the strip-down, inspection, reconditioning and reassembly of bogies from a wide range of passenger and freight rolling stock.


This is a specialist role requiring precision and a strong understanding of bogie systems and components. You will work to manufacturer and industry specifications, maintaining the exacting standards our clients expect from every overhaul we carry out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strip, clean and inspect bogie frames, suspension components, brake rigging and associated systems

  • Assess components against wear tolerances and engineering limits, identifying items for renewal or refurbishment

  • Replace or recondition components to the required specification

  • Reassemble bogies to manufacturer and Railway Group Standards

  • Carry out functional checks and sign-off inspections prior to return to service

  • Complete accurate overhaul records and documentation for all work undertaken

  • Work safely in accordance with site procedures and relevant health & safety requirements

Skills & Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience in bogie overhaul or heavy rolling stock maintenance

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and precision engineering skills

  • Ability to work from technical drawings, overhaul manuals and engineering specifications

  • Familiarity with Railway Group Standards and safe working practices

  • High attention to detail with a methodical, quality-focused approach

  • Experience with a range of bogie types is advantageous
